Kozhikode KSRTC Bus Station and Hilite Mall Opened. Calicut Is Getting Ready
As the city is slowly embracing the label of third IT city of Kerala, associated businesses are booming in Kozhikode. Two of the major infrastructure and entertainment projects started functioning in the city. Kozhikode KSRTC Bus Station inaugurated by the Chief Minister. The mega project with twin towers reshaped the skyline of the Mavoor road. Mavoor road is the main artery as well as the commercial high street of the city of Calicut. The KSRTC bus terminal has been completed spending Rs 65 crore. The terminal offers the facility for 20 buses to start service simultaneously and for 20 buses to park at the bay. Main building of the complex consists of two towers. Each tower includes 11 floors with parking area. There are provisions for multi-level parking and multiplexes.
Along the lines of mall culture in Kozhikode, Hilite Mall, one of the biggest mall in South India and second biggest shopping mall in Kerala after the Lulu Mall Kochi, opened. A wide array of international brands and leading Indian brands already started functioning from Hilite mall.
Healthcare : Fortis and PMPH from KEF Holdings
A number of new ventures in shaping up in Calicut in Hospitality, Healthcare,Housing and Restaurant businesses. Some media reports that major healthcare provider and Delhi based Fortis Healthcare Limited is planning its hospital in Kozhikode.
Singapore-based offsite construction technology company KEF Holdings is launching major project in the health care sector in Kozhikode. The company will invest Rs.550 crore in PMPH (Premium Medical Healthcare Providers) Hospital in Calicut. PMHP Hospital’ is a 500-bed facility tertiary care being built in two phases for cardiology, orthopaedics and neuroscience.
India’s first Model Career Centre under Government of India at NIELIT
Government of India’s National Career Service Scheme promoted by DGE&T envisages setting up of 100 model Career Centres in the country. The first such centre and as a move to take forward the initiative, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), a body of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India has established the first Model Career Centre at NIELIT, Calicut campus in an event organized on 9th June 2015.
There is an Intel IoT (Internet of Things) lab also inaugurated there.
Career Centres will connect local youth and other job-seekers with all possible job opportunities in a transparent and effective manner through the use of technology as well as through counseling and training. The Career Centres would be the pivotal outreach and counselling interface of the National Career Service for teeming millions of aspiring youth from rural, semi urban areas as well as from disadvantaged sections of the society.
City Infrastructure,Light Metro and Low Floor AC Bus services
The much anticipated Light Metro projects is slowly taking shape and is under serious consideration. There are many infrastructure improvement projects such as city road improvements projects are about to take off.
